REAL ID: For U.S. Domestic Travel

1. What is a REAL ID?

  • A REAL ID is a state-issued driver’s license or ID card that meets increased federal security standards.

  • As of May 7, 2025, all U.S. travelers must present a REAL ID (or other acceptable form of identification like a passport) to board domestic flights and enter certain federal facilities

  • A REAL ID license or ID card typically has a star in the upper right-hand corner

2. How to Get a REAL ID:

  • Visit your state DMV with documents providing proof of the following:

    • Full legal name

    • Date of birth

    • Social Security number

    • Two proofs of address

    • Lawful status in the U.S.
