Cruising Tips: Smooth Sailing Ahead
Effective Date: June 17, 2025
1. Before You Board
Arrive early: If possible, plan to arrive in your departure city a day before your cruise to avoid travel delays
Check passport requirements: Some cruises (especially those visiting foreign ports) require a valid passport, even if they start and end in the U.S.
Download the cruise line’s app: Most major cruise lines offer a mobile app for boarding passes, activity schedules, dining reservations, and excursion details
2. Packing for a Cruise
Day bag essentials: Pack a small carry-on bag with your travel documents, medication, a swimsuit, and any valuables. Your checked luggage may not arrive at your cabin until later in the day
Dress for all weather: Even warm-weather cruises can get breezy at night. Bring a light jacket or sweater
Formal nights: Many cruises host 1–2 formal evenings. Check your cruise’s dress code and pack at least one dressy outfit if needed
3. On Board Tips
Reserve early: Book shore excursions, specialty restaurants, and entertainment in advance to get your preferred times.
Use a lanyard or card holder: Your cruise card acts as your room key, ID, and onboard payment method — keep it handy
Check the daily schedule: Each day, you’ll receive a printed or digital schedule of onboard activities, dining hours, and port information — use it to plan your day!
